Movistar Chile selects SIAE MICROELETTRONICA as one of the providers for its 5G backhaul network

Milano – June 2021: Telefonica, through their brand Movistar Chile, will launch its 5G mobile network in the country, expanding services for mobile broadband users as well as opening up to new service opportunities driven by the 5G high performance access network.

Movistar Chile’s backbone runs on one of the highest performing fiber optic network in the national territory. Also, due to Chile’s terrain conformation, microwave radio represents a true network enabler, travelling the distances over fibre-unfavourable terrain. Movistar makes an ample use of microwave and millimetre wave radio delivering fibre-like capacity for metro and access connectivity.

The capable use of these two complementary high-performance technologies are the base over which Movistar Chile is leading in mobile service market.

To rise to the new 5G access needs, Movistar Chile is expanding its wireless network with new multi-gigabit microwave radio AGS20 by SIAE MICROELETTRONICA.

“The launch of the future 5G is an important milestone for us and for Chile’s digitalization, turning new connectivity models into reality, from wearable to smart industries. We believe that 5G will bring enormous potential to the country, both for people and for the industrial sectors. For this reason, we always decide on the best access technologies, and SIAE MICROELECTRONICA products meets our needs”, says Antonio Bueno, Head of Technology at Movistar Chile.

“Our products will enable Movistar Chile subscribers to benefit from the best innovative 5G services”, says Luigi Lovati, Telefonica Global account manager at SIAE MICROELETTRONICA, adding “We are pleased to support them in reaching new milestones that continuously confirm their innovation leadership in the country and in the region”.
