SIAE MICROELETTRONICA Launches a Future Proof Network Operating System Powered by Aricent's Intelligent Switching Solution

Milano, April 14, 2014 - SIAE MICROELETTRONICA Operating System (SM-OS) provides carrier grade features and supports Software Defined Networks (SDN) for simplified and high performance network infrastructure.

SIAE MICROELETTRONICA, a leader in wireless communication technology, has announced a new operating system for all its next generation transport platforms. The SM-OS is powered by Aricent's Intelligent Switching Solution (ISS) software framework that offers Carrier Ethernet (CE) capabilities, advanced Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) features, and supports OpenFlow.

This announcement follows the start of a large deployment project on SM-OS based millimetre wave radio equipment, ALFOplus80HD.
SM-OS accelerates the distribution of new carrier grade features throughout the network elements in a reliable and proven way. SM-OS guarantees consistent behaviour and operational capacity throughout SIAE's entire product portfolio, simplifying network infrastructure planning.

Aricent's ISS is pre-integrated with leading silicon platforms for diverse deployments, having an active roadmap aligning with the market-leading silicon roadmaps. A field-proven software framework, ISS, today has become an integral component of more than 100 types of networking equipment developed by leading equipment manufacturers.
